Bobby Kostadinov began playing the cello at the age of seven. He initially received his training at the Johann Sebastian Bach Music School in Leipzig and at 16 became a junior student at the Leipzig university of music and theatre. There, he studied with Professor Peter Bruns from 2017 to 2024, graduating with top marks. He received artistic inspiration also from Claudio Bohórquez, Maximilian Hornung, Wen-Sinn Yang, Marc Coppey, Siegfried Pank, Boris Kuznezov, and others.

 

He is a multi-award-winning musician, having received over 60 first and second prizes at national and international competitions, as well as numerous other special awards. These include four first prizes at the german competition "Jugend musiziert" with the highest possible score as a soloist and chamber musician at the "Jugend Musiziert" competition, four consecutive first prizes at the "Musik aus Kommunen" competition, first prizes at the Gustav Mahler Cello Competition, the Fanny Mendelssohn Competition, the Brahms Competition, and the Gabriel Fauré Competition, and second prizes at the Carl Bechstein Competition, Allegra, and many others.

 

As a soloist, he has performed orchestras like Bergische Symphoniker, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen, and Stadtorchester Wien.

 

As a chamber musician and soloist, he has performed at festivals such as the Kurt Weill Festival, the ALLEGRA Festival in Bulgaria, the MDR Music Summer, the Cello Festival in Rutesheim and the Oberstdorf Music Summer.

 

His concerts have been broadcast by MDR, HR, and NDR. He has also performed as a soloist in renowned concert halls such as the Leipzig Gewandhaus, Sala Bulgaria in Sofia, Carnegie Hall in New York, the Ehrbarsaal in Vienna, and the Bastille Opera in Paris.

From 2023 to 2025 he was under contract with the MDR radio symphony orchestra and since the 2025/2026 concert season he has been the principal solocellist of the german filmorchestra Babelsberg.

 

In addition, Bobby was involved in social artistic projects for refugees, people with physical and mental disabilities and terminal illnesses, as well as children, in cooperation with the European Union, EMCY and the Flying Gorillas (headquartered in London).

 

As a scholarship recipient, he was supported by, among others, the Jürgen Ponto Foundation of the COMMERZBANK, the German Foundation for Musical Life, the Barthel Foundation, Live Music Now Yehudin Menuhin, Rotary Club Herbst'89 and others.

 

He plays a cello by Michael Stürzenhofecker, Cully (Switzerland) 2012, from the German Musical Instrument Fund.
